National Nurse Practitioner Week
What an eventful year it has been for our nation, one of the uncertain and unprecedented times. It could not be more fitting that 2020 is the year of the nurse. Nurse Practitioners specifically have been tirelessly working around the clock to diagnose, treat, and care for those affected by COVID 19. National Nurse Practitioner Week comes at a pivotal time. We are seeing rising numbers of infection rates sweep across the US, and to those that have been through it all.
NPs on the Frontlines
Nurse practitioners are not only on ground zero battling this pandemic, but they are maintaining access to healthcare for our nation’s people. Each year NPs bridge the gap in our healthcare system. They provide care to those with limited access, who would otherwise go untreated. Annually, over 1 billion patient care visits are performed by Nurse Practitioners. It is no fluke there is growing respect and rapport within the community for their services, which is one of the many reasons we say our thanks during National Nurse Practitioner Week.
During this pandemic, the need for their expertise is greater than ever. We have over 290,000 licensed Nurse Practitioners in America and 30,000 joining them annually. This force is headed in the direction to provide care to all in need.
Jack of all Trades
During National Nurse Practitioner Week, we make sure our NPs don’t go unnoticed. Nurse Practitioners diagnose, treat injuries, prescribe medications, and specialize in all fields of care. The majority practicing in primary care (our nation’s greatest demand). Nurse Practitioners save lives in the Emergency Department. They work in mental health centers providing access to an already vulnerable population of patients. Nurse Practitioners assist surgeons in the operating room, recovery, and rehab. They staff high demand clinics and see high volumes of patients, oftentimes greater than their physician counterparts.
The list of what NP’s accomplish and their importance to our nation’s already fragile healthcare system speaks volumes. National Nurse Practitioner Week 2020 (November 8-14) is a time for us to raise awareness of everything Nurse Practitioners do. To recognize what they do daily and to express gratitude for courageous work fighting COVID 19.
Fight for Change
Join us at NPJobSearch by thanking all the brave and exceptional Nurse Practitioners for all that they do. Please help raise awareness for allowing more highly educated, skilled, and trained NP’s to practice unrestricted in their state. Today only twenty-two states and the District of Columbia grant NP’s full practice authority. National Nurse Practitioner week 2020 allows you to join organizations like The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in educating legislators about the high-quality patient care NP’s provide. There is a huge demand for their unrestricted ability to practice in all 50 states. Your voice matters, together we can make a difference.
Thank you, and Happy National Nurse Practitioner Week 2020.
